I get asked all the time, “So…where are you headed next?” And honestly, it’s a fair question. I’ve earned a bit of a reputation for always having my next trip on the calendar - and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Becoming a travel advisor felt like the most natural next step: I get to combine my love of travel with my passion for crafting thoughtful, one-of-a-kind itineraries for others. I’m Abby, and I’m so happy you’re here exploring Away Travel Collective. Let me tell you a little more about my travel story.

I wasn’t always a globe-trotting jet-setter. My very first flight happened at age 12 on the iconic family pilgrimage to Disney World. In high school, though, things got interesting. I was lucky enough to take part in two unforgettable learning experiences that showed me what travel could be: dog sledding through the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and joining a bat research trip along the Amazon River in Peru. Safe to say, those trips left their mark.

When college rolled around, study abroad somehow…never happened. I wanted to go, Italy was calling my name, and I was deep into planning a semester there. But the timing never quite worked out. For the next ten years, I kept saying, “One day, I’ll go to Italy,” while becoming wildly creative with excuses not to.

During that time, I traveled whenever work and volunteer opportunities sent me somewhere (thank you, other people’s budgets), tacking on extra days to explore new cities. I crisscrossed the U.S. and Canada for weddings and visits with friends. Still, Italy lingered at the top of my list.

Finally, in 2018, with a few well-timed nudges from a friend, I booked the trip. Three cities, endless pasta and wine, and zero regrets. From that moment on, there was no turning back. My passport has been collecting stamps ever since - and I’m just getting started.
